Product description
With The Flag Halyard Chair, Wegner sends his regards to the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, and shows that he also masters designs in chrome steel pipes. Despite this gesture, the chair is still decidedly Wegner. The chair's expanses are made of plaited flag halyard and the longhaired sheepskin softens the industrial sharpness of the steel adding an air of comfort and cosiness .
Nevertheless, the story behind the design is more than just an art historical dialogue. The shape of the chair's seat was conceived during a family holiday in Århus where the family spent many days by the beach. And Wegner used a lot of the time there experimenting with the shape of the Flag Halyard Chair's seat in the sand. The anecdote shows that Wegner was always at work - but it also shows that work was almost a sort of game for him and that playing around with ideas was central to his working-process.
