Product description

Brand:  Onecollection, Denmark www.onecollection.com/ Designer:  Finn Juhl Design Connected ID: 869

Juhl's first masterpiece was the "Pelican" chair, designed in 1939, and produced in tiny numbers in 1940. Pelikan is a marvellous piece of design which beckons to every beholder. The chair was named for its resemblance to the shape of a pelican with outspread wings. The biomorphic Pelican chair was an early example of the organic shapes of upholstered furniture that would become popular in the fifties. Its organic form is a good example of the way in which Finn Juhl has been inspired by modern ”free art”. Typical of Finn Juhl, the Pelikan is very comfortable and manufactured according to best craftsmanship traditions with hand-sewn upholstery. The legs come in several types of wood.
The influence of the abstract sculptor Jean Arp, a motif throughout his career, is clearly reflected in one of Finn Juhl's first works.Originally manufactured by Niels Vodder, Copenhagen and now reintroduced by Hansen & Sorensen of Denmark.
The upholstered frame is moulded in hard foam on a steel frame. Legs are solid maple or walnut.

Year of design: 1939
