Product description

Brand:  Design Mobel, New Zealand www.designmobel.co.nz Designer:  David Trubridge Design Connected ID: 2619

In 2005 David was asked by the New Zealand furniture company Design Mobel Ltd to work on a bed design project with them. They asked him to rethink the idea of sleep.
“I began by writing to friends and contacts all around the world,” said David. “I asked them what sleep meant to them. The results amazed me by their consistency. Romantic words like floating, cosy, rocking, and trusting kept recurring. These bore no resemblance to the harsh rectilinear platforms normally seen in bed catalogues. I see sleep as a voyage through dreams, when we wholly give ourselves up in trust, lying safely curled up in our cosy sleep vessel.
“A bed is a liferaft that bears us safely through the terrifying storms of nightmares and the blissful calm of gently waking on a summer afternoon.”
Float is adaptable, romantic sleeping for an adaptable, modern way of life. It can be used for ten minutes in the office, half an hour on the lawn, or all night in any place we pull our cradle to. It is a cocooning space that
gives a feeling of security, sheltering the sleeper from people and the elements. It is made entirely with natural, sustainable materials. The top is fully adjustable to work as a side screen, or shade screen.
Float is hand crafted from sustainable harvest New Zealand native Totara; a water resistant timber that requires little maintenance in its natural state. Acrylic fabric finished in Teflon encloses the base and canopy of Float. This fabric is superior colour fast fabric from Meridian, Italy designed for outdoor use. The open-cell foam core mattress structure is suitable for exterior use and promotes fast moisture transportation and evaporation. The operating mechanism is in Stainless Steel.
